It’s nearly time to return to Terre d’Ange! The Wyrd & Wonder read-along of Kushiel’s Dart kicks off at the start of September for six weeks of swooning, gushing, (back)stabbing, screaming and sober analysis (other reactions may also apply).
Heads-up to all fantasy fans – we’re planning another Wyrd and Wonder read-along! Jacqueline Carey came in for much love during this year’s event, so this autumn we’ll be (re)visiting Terre d’Ange to read her epic debut Kushiel’s Dart.
20 years ago, three boys went on an ill-fated school trip to Rome. One lost an eye. One lost his only friend. One lost himself. Now all three are back in the newly-rebuilt capital of the European Confederacy, and their schoolboy feud will be nothing next to the ancient vengeance taking shape.
Two forces compete for control of the future. Their agents do battle through time to nudge every possible world towards the outcomes they need. But now two of their best have made direct contact. Now the war is for their hearts and minds.
There are never any strangers in the isolated moorland village of Near. Until now. A mysterious young man has been glimpsed in the moonlight. A child disappears each night. Is the stranger to blame, or does the moor harbour dark secrets?
The Vanishers left the world in tatters. The waters are poisoned, disease is rampant, lives are balanced against value and need. The elders give Yên to a dragon as payment for a healing; but what value can a failed scholar have to an immortal spirit? What need can an unwanted peasant girl fulfil?
