Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish, and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It’s all about books, lists and sharing the love we have of both with our bookish friends. This week, we’re picking out books that would make great song titles.

Hailing all channels: it’s time for your weekly SciFiMonth round-up! With more crew aboard than ever before, it’s been a busy week and given the events happening in meatspace (my poor refresh button, it is quite worn out) it was easy to miss something. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Grab a cuppa, and let’s take a tour of the fun so far.
You know I can’t resist a read-along. It was SciFiMonth that first lured me into one, and it’s a tradition I’m delighted to continue. This year, we’re reading Mary Gentle’s Golden Witchbreed, a classic of cut-throat politics and cultural tensions as a junior diplomat gets out of her depth on the dangerously compelling world of Orthe.
Today, I’m delighted to welcome back one the biggest names in space opera: Peter F Hamilton. To close out the blog tour celebrating the release of The Saints of Salvation, Peter agreed to tackle my favourite SciFiMonth challenge – Six Degrees of SFnal Separation.
I celebrated an array of excellent ways fantasy books have got started back in Wyrd and Wonder, and I promised myself I’d revisit the idea for SciFiMonth with an SF spin. Surely, surely, there are some brilliant hooks out there in the genre?
I’ll be taking part in (some of) the SciFiMonth challenge over on Instagram – I got started yesterday with the TBR prompt. I need a TARDIS to read all these and I’m going to pick my next read by whim, so I’ll be curious to see how many I do tackle. There are a lot of other distracting books on my shelf…
It’s that time! SciFiMonth, when we set off on our 30-day mission to explore strange new worlds and alternate dimensions; to seek out new books and unfamiliar media; to boldly geek out like… well, like we do every year, joyfully and without restraint. BRING IT.
With the start of SciFiMonth just a week away, we’re counting down to launch. Time to dig out old star charts, draw up ambitious plans for discovering – or creating – new life forms, decide where to start knocking on the walls of reality to open doors to parallel dimensions… or maybe just figure out our TBRs and blog content. If you’re looking for some ideas, we’re here to help.
Do you need an Escape Pod in your life? Sure you do. Escape Pod is the Hugo-nominated podcast for the very best SF audio fiction in the universe – but to celebrate its 15th birthday, Escape Pod is crossing the streams and entering print for the first time. And thanks to Titan Books, I’ve got a copy to give away!
One of the joys of SciFiMonth is a big buddy read. For our classic read-along, I’d like to introduce you to Golden Witchbreed, an epic of knife-edge (and knifepoint) diplomacy, beguiling world-building and cultural tension as humanity tries to persuade the post-apocalyptic world of Orthe to open its doors to the galaxy.
The engines are warming and the leisurely countdown has begun (we like plenty of time to be sure we don’t forget any books): the good ship SciFiMonth has booked its launch slot and is welcoming crew aboard. Time to talk crew’s quarters, navigation charts and the gorgeous 2020 design kit!
2020 may have lasted forever, but it’s time to set our sights on the future. SciFiMonth will be back this November for a month of exploring the coolest genre on or off-planet. Sign up is now open – if you’re interested in joining the finest crew of geeks as we discuss all things science fictional, jump aboard!
