Back in 2013, bloggers seemed to talk more fantasy than science fiction. In response, Rinn Reads set up SciFiMonth, a month-long celebration of the genre. Fast forward to 2022 and sign up for our TENTH annual event is now open! Come geek out with the finest crew of genre lovers as we celebrate the joys and horrors of but what if this November. Sure, we enjoy SF all year round – but SciFiMonth is when we enjoy it together.

What is SciFiMonth?

SciFiMonth is a celebration of all things science fictional across blogs and social media platforms throughout the month of November. The crew will be reading, watching, listening, playing through and talking about fascinating tales of alien worlds and alternate timelines, weird science and transformative technology, dystopian struggles and utopian dreams.

SciFiMonth means reviews, interviews, book tags, recommendations, an inevitable expansion of your TBR (just go with it, don’t mind the squeaking) and a great deal of fun getting to know the rest of the crew as we chatter about one of our favourite genres. We will be hosting at least one read-along, although we’re not organised enough this year to know what we’re reading yet (your suggestions are very welcome). There will also be our now-traditional SciFiMonth Challenge to provide a daily prompt to inspire photos or blog posts, and a SciFiMonth book bingo to help you navigate your TBR.

Join the crew

Anyone can join the SciFiMonth crew! Whether you’re curious to try the genre for the first time, to catch up on recent releases, to enjoy old favourites, or are seeking suggestions – or moral support – as you explore outside your comfort zone, we want to hear about your adventures. Sign up to let us know you’re planning to come along for the ride – and where we’ll be able to find you.

Signing up is not a commitment. It’s just a signal to let us know to expect you aboard. We don’t set reading targets or require you make a certain number of posts, although we’ll certainly plot read-alongs and devise prompts to spark your imagination. You’re just as much a member of the SciFiMonth crew if you chat on Twitter and/or in the comments or if you post every day on your social media channel of choice. Me, I’ll start with grand plans (it’s our tenth birthday after all!) and no doubt be flying by the seat of my pants by the end of week one.

Win books

There’s no deadline for signing up – we welcome new crew any day they jump aboard! However, crew who sign up and make a SciFiMonth post by November 5th are eligible to enter our sign up giveaway. Posts can be on your social media channel of choice (if you choose Twitter, a single tweet does not qualify, but a thread does) – just remember to use the #SciFiMonth tag and share your link with us via the Master Schedule to ensure we see it.
