One Sentence Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by Rebeca at “Books and Messy Buns”.

Just describe your current (or last) read in a single sentence. I’ve not yet picked up Over Sea, Under Stone, so I’m still reflecting on The Three by Sarah Lotz.

Both! I was asked why so many people tag it as horror, which made me step back and think about some of the content. I had it pegged as a thriller rather than horror (it’s not outright supernatural, it’s not gore-soaked), but then I thought about just how creepy certain passages would be on screen rather than on page (Paul’s dictaphone messages). The format kept me in rational observer mode rather than empathetic mode – and in retrospect, I’m rather glad it did.

I also had time to reflect overnight on some of the implications that had passed me by when I wrote my review – but I can’t say too much about those without massive spoilers. So let’s just say that I realised that the more I thought about it, the more disturbing it got, which is both a good and a bad thing in my book 🙂
