Old shows

I’ve been using my year of free Prime to rewatch Who and finally watch some shows I missed first time around.

Heroes episode 2 has to have the worst Previously On voiceover intro I’ve ever heard.

(So far, the rest of the show isn’t much better)

Heroes

It promised so much….

Take the remote and press “stop”. Go and find a different series. I suggest “Oz” or “John Adams”.

Heroes never delivers.

  …I persevered with Heroes. It picked up halfway through Season 1, so I stuck with it (because it was so badly shot it didn’t trigger my headaches 😉 and have nearly made it to the end of Season 2, which feels as baggy as the first half of Season 1. I do quite like some of the arc plotting, but it is terribly dragged out. But I’m really only interested in the villains and – much to my own surprise – Claire.
  
  I’m restricted to Prime, so sadly no options on John Adams or Oz although I’ll keep an eye out for them – they both sound intriguing 🙂
  
  In more rewarding tv, I’ve been slowly rewatching Doctor Who, and have watched Silk and Luther with Mr B, both of which we loved. I suspect the next foray will be Ripper Street or Whitechapel (what a choice: McFadyen or Penry-Jones. Hmmm) although we have been given Homeland and House of Cards, so those should probably come first!

      I must admit, in spite loving the film, Fargo as a tv show holds no appeal for me. I don’t think the things i like about the film could be sustained beyond a 2-hour running time (they would become irritating schtick) and I have massive reservations about tv show spin-offs of films in general.
      
      Similarly, I’m very loathe to look up Twelve Monkeys, another film I have a huge soft spot for – I can at least see how some of the core mechanism and story would translate to a longer, serial format, but I guess I’m a bit precious about cashing in on a good idea – it so rarely delivers consistently (see also: everything Marvel. Ye gods. But then, I have a low superhero threshold).
      
      While the basic premise of The Affair also holds no appeal, that’s a very appealing cast. Very appealing. So I’ll look out for it 🙂
      
      In the meantime, we have watched and loved series 1 of both House of Cards (US edition) and The Fall. And I’ve discovered that series 4 of both Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead are available on the aeroplane, so I might not sleep on the way to/from Australia 😉

  …I have finally dropped Heroes, halfway through Season 3. I see what you mean. Gosh, that got tedious – to the point where I could no longer see a pay-off even promised, as the writers had lost their way so very badly. Having read the Wikipedia re-caps of the rest of the show, I don’t feel I’ve missed out, but I’m glad I now have some context for the show as an important slice of recent scifi history.

    The only memorable thing from Heroes was when (the guy who was in Star Trek) turned up and the Reg number of his car was NCC1701.

      He was pretty much the best thing in it by a mile – chewing up the scenery and succeeding at being really bloody creepy.
